5.1 Summarizing and Ranking the News
Editors decide what is the important news of the day and then assemble the newspaper. You can make similar judgments and learn how to analyze what you read.

Many stories in the newspaper contain five facts that can be determined. They are known as the 5 Ws.

Here's how you can find those:

  1. Who identifies who the story is about.
  2. What explains what that person or group is doing.
  3. Where tells where the story takes place.
  4. Why tells the reasons behind the action in the story.
  5. When tells when the action happened.
