The weather information in the newspaper provides a significant amount of authentic data for use in math activities.
You can have students list temperatures in the weather information from lowest to highest.
- They can figure medians or averages of a given geographical area or they can find the difference between lows and highs of selected cities.
- They can convert Fahrenheit to Celsius using this formula. Tc = (5/9)x(Tf-32); Tc = temperature in degrees Celsius, Tf = temperature in degrees Fahrenheit
- Students can use the statistics in the Sports section to write word problems for a partner to solve.
