The newspaper chronicles daily life and as such, it is the perfect resource for teaching mathematical concepts with a relevant text. Numbers appear on every page of the newspaper. From page numbers to dates to amounts and ages, almost every concept that can be represented with a number can be found.
Assign students to look through the newspaper and find 10 different ways numbers have been used.
- Allow time for a discussion of the concepts represented by those numbers. (i.e. time, date, amounts, etc.)
