Here are some easy ways to use the newspaper to teach grammar and punctuation.
Can your students find examples of various parts of speech in the newspaper?
- Some headlines are complete sentences while others are not. Ask students to find three examples of each. For those that are not sentences, ask them to rewrite them as complete thoughts.
- Comic strips are bits of dialogue, Assign students to write out the strips correctly punctuating the dialogue with quotation marks as needed.
