Technology has changed newspaper delivery. You can now read the news in print or online. Either way, the newspaper is a terrific teaching tool. And you can incorporate either or both into your curriculum easily. Newspaper use also meets many state standards.
Many newspapers offer electronic editions:
Also known as e-editions, these are exact replicas of the print newspaper that readers can access through their computers.
There are several advantages to having students interact with an online newspaper:
Students can see all the same text, photos and ads that they would see in the print newspaper.
Students can flip through pages, skim headlines and stories, and use e-editions much the same way as with print editions.
It is easy for students to change screen layout and move easily through pages or sections. Plus, moving the mouse over a story or headline often provides a summary for a quick read.
Students can type in keywords to research people or topics.
Students can save or print articles by clicking a button.
Online newspapers don't require recycling. They don't create classroom clutter. There are no inky fingers!
